Who
Individuals with
an undergraduate degree and completion of the K-8 content area
requirements, passing scores on the Praxis I reading, writing,
and mathematics
test, and experience working with young people in teaching and
learning situations are invited to apply. The program is designed so
that educational technicians can remain in their jobs while completing
the program. Application materials are available through the
Admissions
and Advising Office in the College of Education and Human
Development. Applicants should indicate an interest in the
unified/ special education concentration on the “intended concentration” question
of the application form, and also select the Unified/Special Education
Concentration on the site preference form.
The district or cluster of districts for each of the three
supervision groups of seven interns is arranged in collaboration
with the member districts of the
Southern Maine Partnership. For persons not employed as ed techs, site placements
are made during the admissions process with consideration for personal
preference, geography, and available placements.
The faculty of the University of Southern Maine collaborates
with school-based faculty in the design and delivery of the program.
University faculty and school faculty serve as site coordinators,
supervisors,
intern mentors, and academic instructors.
