Advising

Sharon Bannon and Michael Harrison are the academic advisors for all School of Business undergraduate students.

Graduate students are advised by Alice Cash at (207) 780-4020.

More information is available on the websites for Masters in Business Administration, Masters in Accounting, The Dual Degree or the 3-2 program pages.

Your advisors will assist you in pursuing your educational goals by helping you plan each semester's courses, explaining core and departmental requirements, and reviewing your academic progress. They can also provide information on available concentrations and minors within the school and direct you to resources and options outside the school. It is your responsibility, as the student, to know degree requirements as defined in the USM catalog, but your advisors want to help you with your questions and can refer you to the appropriate campus resources for further assistance when needed.

Making an appointment

  • Call (207) 780-4020
  • Let the receptionist know who your assigned advisor is.
  • Phone appointments are available. Let the receptionist know whether you will be coming into the office or calling in for a phone appointment.
  • November and April are very busy times for advising so you should call 1-3 weeks in advance for an appointment.
  • Students typically register for spring in November and for fall and summer in April.
  • Late September and October and late February and March are good times to make longer appointments to plan out your entire academic career or to discuss interests, majors, and careers.
  • Remember to keep your appointment! Re-scheduling appointments during peak registration can be very difficult. If you will not be able to make your appointment, call to cancel and reschedule.

Preparing for an Appointment, if you are a current USM student:

  • Review the requirements in your USM catalog or review your student record sheet. Click here for the current USM catalog. If you have lost your copy of your student record sheet, another copy can be obtained at 113 Luther Bonney Hall with proper ID.

  • If you have questions about your major, minor, or concentrations, look over requirements in your USM catalog.
  • If your appointment is for registration purposes, have a tentative schedule of possible classes ready to be discussed. Check to see if you have met proficiencies and course prerequisites. The newspaper schedule of next semester courses are available at the SB office, the Registrar's Office in Gorham and Advising services on both campuses. On-line course schedules are usually posted about a week before the printed schedule is available. Click here for Online Course Search.

Preparing for an appointment, if you are a prospective student:

  • Bring a copy of your transcript showing any college course work you have completed to date.
  • Browse the School of Business website to become familiar with its programs and policies.
  • You can access the current USM catalog. (Note: this catalog would be one year out of date with the catalog you'll be admitted under).
