PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Professor Violette has taught taxation and financial accounting courses at USM since 1988. In 2006 he was recognized for his teaching, scholarship and leadership by being named the first Berry, Dunn, McNeil & Parker Distinguished Fellow of Accounting and Taxation. Dr. Violette has been the recipient of teaching recognitions including the 2006 School of Business Outstanding Teacher and a 2001 Faculty Senate Award for Teaching Excellence. His research has been published in prestigious journals such as The Journal of the American Taxation Association, Behavioral Research in Accounting, The Journal of Accountancy, The CPA Journal, The Accounting Educator’s Journal, The Journal of Accounting and Finance Research, and The Journal of Business and Economic Perspectives. Professor Violette is a past president of the Maine Society of CPAs (2003-2004) and was an ex-officio audit committee member for Banknorth Group for several years (2000-2006). Dr. Violette was the first Director of the Masters of Science in Accounting Program (2000-2003), and a former Accounting Program Chair (2000-2003), Associate Dean (1998-2000) and Accreditation Manager (1995-1998) for the School of Business.
