Instructions For Subscribing

1) Find your course and the NAME OF LIST for your course, from the following:

2) Click on the NAME OF LIST for your course. Your web browser will take you to a page of instructions for subscribing.

3) Fill in your full name and email address. Be sure to include your full name, as it is listed in your USM enrollment, in the space provided for your name. Otherwise, I cannot recognize you, and you will not receive credit for carrying out this assignment on time.

4) Do not change any of the other settings for subscribing.

5) Click Join(NAME OF LIST).

NOTES

  • If you do not have a computer and internet access, USM can provide it. Go to the USM Computer Center and open an account.
  • If you have more than one email account, subscribe for the account you use most, or for all of them. You can only receive and send with accounts from which you subscribe.

After subscribing, you will receive an email confirmation. YOU MUST RESPOND TO THIS CONFIRMATION AS IT INSTRUCTS. Then you will receive a notice that your subscription was accepted. This notice contains full instructions for using the list. At any time during the semester, you can send messages to all subscribed members of the class, including me, by sending mail to the address provided in the acknowledgement.

The address for sending messages is the NAME OF LIST above.

I will use this discussion list to send you reminders and announcements concerning the course. You are responsible for announcements I make by way of the list, so check your e-mail regularly. I often use the list to avoid making non-chemical announcements, and thus to maximize the chemical content of the class.

I invite you to use the list for discussion of chemical topics with class members and me. Any message you send to the list will go to all subscribed members of your class and to me.

If you have specific questions FOR GALE RHODES, please do not send them to the discussion list. Send them directly to me at the address shown with my current Contact Information and Schedule. If you accidentally send a private message to everyone on the list instead of to me, it is very likely that I will just click "reply" and my private answer to you will also go to everyone in the class -- so be careful to use the correct mailing address.

If you send me a question that I believe will be helpful to others, I may send a copy of your question and my reply to the discussion list.

Discussion-Group Etiquette

  • Please be polite and helpful in tone and language to all discussants.
  • Please do not send attachments, such as images or word-processor files, to the discussion group. They will cause your message to be rejected.
  • Please do not allow automatic e-mail responses ("I am away until ... .") to go to the discussion group.
  • Please use this discussion ONLY for messages related to chemistry, or to your class or laboratory.
