Refund Information Policy

Refund Policy
The tuition refund policy is established by the Board of Trustees of the University of Maine System. When a student withdraws, tuition charges and all associated course fees are reduced in accordance with the schedule below. When calculating tuition adjustments, the attendance period begins on the opening day of scheduled campus classes, includes weekends and holidays, and ends when the student provides written or telephone notification to the Registrar. If the notice is sent through the U.S. mail, the postmark date is used to establish the date of withdrawal

Dropped course policy
(Applies when a student does not drop all courses)
A student who remains registered for some courses is not charged for any course dropped during the first two weeks of the semester. The final date to drop a course without finacial penalty for tuition and fees is Sept.15, 2008. Students will be charged for tuition and fees when a course is not dropped by Sept. 15, 2008.

Students dropping one course and adding another must notify the university of the decision to drop before Sept. 15, 2008. Failure to do so may mean that the student will be charged for both courses.

Withdrawal Policy
(Applies only when a student withdraws from all courses)
Tuition and fees are reduced in accordance with the following schedule only when a student withdraws from all courses.

Refund Percentage

100 % - Ends September 15, 2008

50% - Ends October 6, 2008

25% - Ends October 27, 2008

0% - After October 27, 2008

*In the case of a University Withdrawal after 60% of class (November 3, 2008) the student will receive a grade designation to be determined by the instructor. If a student resides in University housing, Residence Student Services must be separately notified. Information about the proration of room and board charges is available upon request.
Request for special exemptions to the refund policy must be filed within 90 days of the semester involved

The University reserves the right to cancel a current semester's registration, preventing a student from receiving grades or credit for courses, if outstanding charges are not paid.
Please allow two weeks for a refund. If a Discover card or a MasterCard or Visa debit or credit card was used to pay University charges, any refund due a student will be issued to that card account number.
