Office of Academic Assessment
Newly admitted degree students including freshmen, transfer and readmitted students, who have not otherwise met proficiency, are required to complete placement examinations in writing and mathematics before registering for courses. The results of the examinations are used to determine appropriate course placement. The costs associated with these examinations are covered in the student’s enrollment fee. For information, contact the Office of Academic Assessment (780-4383), 253 Payson Smith Hall, Portland. Non-degree (non-matriculated) students are encouraged to take placement examinations prior to registering for courses in mathematics or writing. Non-degree students pay a fee of $15.00 for each examination taken.

Course Cancellations
The University reserves the right to cancel courses in the case of low enrollment.

All courses entitled Independent Study require the completion of an Independent Study approval form. This form must be completed in advance of registration.

Late Registration

On or after September 2, 2008, if you wish to register for a course section, you must first complete a course add form.

Schedule Changes
All matriculated students may change their schedule through August 29. Schedule changes after August 1, 2008 which result in increases to charges will need to be paid using a credit or debit card. Please refer to Student Billing payment information.

Registration changes on or after September 2, 2008
For registration changes, forms are available at major registration sites: The Registrar’s Office in Gorham, the Advising Services Office in Portland, Business Office in Lewiston-Auburn College or any of the off-campus centers. Please note: Changes in credit hour enrollment will change your student bill.

Variable Credit, Pass/Fail, Audit, and Repeat Courses
Students may request variable credit, Pass/Fail, and audit on the registration worksheet which will be used during the registration process.

**Changing grade option from P/F, Audit or normal grading must be completed by the end of the 2nd week of classes, September 15th. Grade change option will not apply after this date.**

Please note however, that courses taken to satisfy CORE curriculum, academic honors, major and/or minor requirements may not be taken on a pass/fail or audit basis. Students repeating a course (not completing an incomplete 'I' grade) need to complete a Repeat Course form.
