ADDING, DROPPING AND WITHDRAWAL

Adding a course
http://www.usm.maine.edu/~reg/ADDFORM.pdf
Obtain and complete a Course Add Form. Obtain instructors’ signature and return form by the end of the first week of the term to the Registrar’s Office. For late afternoon, evening, and weekend courses that meet once a week, adds will be accepted through the day following the second class meeting. Charges will increase if the total number of credit hours increases. Payment for additional credit hours is due at the time or registration.

Dropping a course without withdrawing from the University
http://www.usm.maine.edu/~reg/DROPFORM.pdf
During the first two weeks in the semester, you may drop a course on MaineStreet or you may complete a drop form and return the form to any major registration site. You do not need the instructor’s signature in order to drop. The date the drop form is received is used to determine if charges should be reduced. The final date to drop a Fall 2008 course without financial liability is September 15, 2008.
Courses dropped beginning September 16 through November 3 will receive an automatic grade W, which has no effect on your grade point average (GPA). After that time, a course withdrawal form, available at the Registrar's Office must be completed and signed by the instructor who will assign a grade, normally F.

Withdrawing from all courses
http://www.usm.maine.edu/~reg/semesterleave.pdf
A student may withdraw from all courses by completing a Semester Leave Form. This form is available at any major registration site and needs to be returned to a major registration site. Students may also withdraw by mail sending a letter to the Registrar’s Office or by telephone calling 780-5105 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The date of withdrawal is established on the day the University receives notification. If a withdrawal notice is mailed, the postmark will be used to establish the withdrawal date.
When a student withdraws, charges are reduced in accordance with the Withdrawal Policy Refund Information at this site:

When a student officially drops a course during the first two weeks of school (September 2 through September 15), all course-related charges are cancelled. There is no refund, however, if a student drops a course after September 15, 2008. This policy applies to students who drop a course or courses but continue to remain enrolled in other courses. See Student Billing’s Withdrawal Policy

REMINDER
Failure to properly withdraw may result in a FAILING grade and FINANCIAL LIABILITY. Discussion with a faculty member is not proper notification of change.

Please contact the Registrar’s Office at usmregi@usm.maine.edu, or call
