La Tarde y el Menú
El 30 de noviembre de 2007
The Evening and the Menu
The Origin of
Tapas
Tapas,
the tradition of friends nibbling from small plates of food, is believed to have
been started by Spanish King Alfonso the 10th, who issued a decree that all
tabernas must serve tapas with each glass of wine. These savory
treats were placed over the top of a wine glass, protecting the contents within
from flies and dust. In fact, the word tapa is derived from the Spanish
word tapar, meaning "to cover." Today, tapas are enjoyed from
Madrid to Barcelona to New York and beyond - small plates are a culinary trend
around the world.
