Lin Lisberger:  Sculpture

Ladders | Figures and Cars | Hands | Shields and Helmets | Ribs

Resumé Below:

Lin Lisberger is a sculptor in Maine working with local wood: "My sculptures are made with wood in an intuitive way, trying to follow the curves of the wood. I work to create forms which echo many possible images--ladders, shields, helmets, fossils, farm tools, Japanese tree supports, a quick drawing. Each sculpture is a sketch of a moment in time and place--in the life of the tree and in the balance between strength and fragility in humans and nature."

"...her skeletal fruitwood constructions carry themselves along uncertain journeys....It is a graceful and disarmingly poignant performance."
--Philip Issacson in Maine Sunday Telegram, June 17, 2007
"Lin Lisberger has struck a potent balance in this exhibition (Expressive Figures) of external strife and inner strength and the nature that grounds and nurtures that strength."
--June LaCombe, sculpture curator, March 2005

"...Her three separate sculptures of polished wood ribs claw into thin air as if the ribs themselves could seek and breathe. They link the skeletal ribs of humans and animals to Maine wooden boats and the limbs of trees--as well as to the blind groping of desire."
--Donna Gold in Maine Times, June 12, 1997

"...Working against this visual fragility is the second force, Lisberger's 'just tossed off' casualness. The effect of all this is impressionistic and irresistible."
--Philip Isaacson in Maine Sunday Telegram, March 23, 1997

"...The work has grace, vitality and a sense of transience. It may dance and then vanish."
--Philip Isaacson in Maine Sunday Telegram, June 2, 1996
