Lucille A. Benedict
Assistant Professor of Chemistry, USM
I am an assistant professor in the Chemistry Department at the University of Southern Maine. My primary teaching responsibilities include Principles of Chemistry I (CHY 113) and Analytical Chemistry (CHY 231 and 232). Within these two classes I try to make connections between chemistry and everyday life. I also relate material we are discussing with environmental topics because they are so relevant to social issues today, and because my research is focused on the analysis of environmental contaminants.
Currently in our research lab we have three main projects: contaminants analysis in cigarette butts and ash, water quality in the Presumpscot River basin, and a report going out for the Ocean Alliance.
