Course Objectives and Student Responsibilities

1) Introduce the student to the basic concepts, vocabulary, and institutions of international relations.

Students completing the assigned readings on time and participating in class discussion will obtain a survey of international relations. Your primary text, World Politics:  Trend and Transformation, and lectures will provide the background for this basic understanding.

2) Teach the student to evaluate critically a range of perspectives on International Relations.

To critically evaluate differing perspective on international relations, students are required to read the New York Times daily and to be prepared to partake in both class discussions and small group exercises. A short paper on an assigned topic will be due twice during the semester (Assignment #1  and   Assignment #2). As always, rules of grammar and citation apply to all written assignments.
