Professor Jaffe specializes in Latin American cultural studies and translation studies, with publications on topics in colonial as well as contemporary Latin American literature. In addition to published articles on cultural issues in translation, she has translated texts for the Maine Dept. of Labor and oral histories for Latino Lives, Creating Community, a book on Latinos/as in Portland, Maine forthcoming from SUNY Press. She is currently studying and translating Latin American women writers’ retellings of Homer’s Odyssey.  She teaches courses on translation and interpretation, contemporary Latin American cultural production, and the role of food in understanding issues of race and class in Latin America.
