Scholarship

As a part-time faculty member with significant administrative responsibilities, I am not expected to engage in scholarship as part of my job. The topic areas listed below represent a combination of work I do at USM and scholarly pursuits I carry out in my own time. These suggest the kinds of student projects for which I might be an appropriate faculty advisor.

  • Organizational change and alternative organizational structures, especially in higher education
  • Applied social research, evaluation and needs assessment
  • Credentialing of  educational professionals
  • Impact of teaching styles and approaches on learning outcomes
  • Subcultures of consumption, especially those formed around leisure activities
  • Concepts of community related to local small businesses and economic development
  • Impact of public policy (especially in the areas of financing and regulation) on non-governmental organizations (both for-profit and non-profit)
  • Early twentieth century European history, culture and literature
