2008 Business Plan Competition Winners

mCaddie

mCaddie is a credible social network wrapped around an intuitive
GPS-based scorecard, which feeds statistics into a robust database for
use by a mobile golf caddie application. mCaddie will provide club
suggestions, distance to hole information, and will integrate with
satellite maps and course information. Accessible through the mobile
Internet, mCaddie is also being developed for Apple's iPhone and
Google's Android platforms.

Anchored by an entrepreneur and senior software developers, mCaddie
will employ a seasoned Board of Advisors, including current and former
entrepreneurs and tech executives, PGA certified golfers, professors
of technology and business, and state and local government officials.
mCaddie's development team includes leading experts in semantic,
standards-based web and user interface, Objective-C/Cocoa Mac OS X,
and social network design, as well as Apple and Java developer
certifications and nearly a half-century of collective experience.

mCaddie principals are Kurtis Petersons and James Daniels.

 


Entrepreneurship Week

Sandra Stone of Maine Center for Enterprise Development, Governor John Baldacci and Valarie Lamont of the Center for Entrepreneurship at the signing of Entrepreneurship Week Maine proclamation. February 23- March 1st, 2008 was Entrepreneurship Week.


Business Management Certification Graduation

The Certificate in Business Management, a partnership of the School of Business,
the Center for Continuing Education and the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce,
graduates its first class on April 13, 2007.


2007 Business Plan Competition Winners

2007 Student Business Plan Competition Winners A. Silver and Alireza Khojastehzad of
Silver Performance Gear with Dr. Valarie Lamont, Associate Dean of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Winner from among 30 competing teams, Silver Performance Gear founder, A. Silver, recently won first prize of $25,000 in cash and services in the USM School of Business Student Business Plan Competition. Silver and USM marketing student Alireza Khojastehzad worked on the plan together, establishing numerous contacts with the business community along the way. As a result, they are well on their way to realizing their new Maine-based business. Silver's business is currently a tenant at the Maine Center for Enterprise Development.

Gordon Platt Honored

Gordon Platt, Instructor for FastTrac for Veterans, was honored for his work at the SBA Dinner.
He received the SBA 2006 Veteran Small Business Champion Award May 24 in Bangor.

Student Business Plan Competition Wins Project Management Award

Richard Bilodeau, Program Manager for the Student Business Plan Competition, received the Project of the Year award from the Project Management Institute at their meeting June 8.


Dr. Valarie Lamont was featured in an issue of FastTrac Connections in an article titled "Lighting the Entrepreneurial Spark Across Rural Maine."
