Ed. by Danka Nikolic, 1996, 126 pp.
The book consists of three sets of letters which somehow found their way from the besieged Sarajevo to Belgrade hetween 1992 and 1994. The first is by solicitor Rizah Pasalic, the second by Inja Pasalic, while the third set includes letters written by different persons. The letters are in an Aesopian language, but often also offer a straight record of everyday life in Sarajevo. They show the man to be a very tough beast indeed, managing to survive even under most adverse circumstances. The arduous Sarajevo subsistence is marked try poverty, anxiety, fear, death - and hope.
