Intellectuals and War

Intelektualci i ratLes intellectuels et la guerre

Ed. by Ivan Colovic and Aljosa Mimica
Belgrade Circle/Center for Anti-War Action, 1993, 152 pp.

A Collection of 50 articles submitted to the Belgrade Circle, during the winter of 1992/93. The authors analyse the destructive role played by their colleagues - men of letters, spirit and knowledge. The book urges intellectual and moral responsibility among the creators of public opinion - academics, philosophers, writers - those who provoked the war through the power of words and later justified it. A testimony to the premeditated promotion of hatred, manipulation of the past, "learned" justification of crime.. A testimony regarding the role of "ideologues" who offered both overt and covert support to the strengthening of an authoritarian regime, which has been involved in dirty endeavors in the name of national glory. The book has been translated into French (Les Temps Modernes, Summer 1994).
