A translation of a recently published essay by the German poet and writer which provoked debates in European intellectual and political circles. Enzesberger has no words of comfort for his Balkan readers; he states that civil war is a global occurrence. At the end of the 20th century the world has returned to the ancient model of existence: the battle of all against all. Clever, provocative and extremely pessimistic.
