Diversity Scholar

The Diversity Scholar is a full-time faculty member appointed by the Steering Committee of the Multicultural Learning Collaborative, and the Dean of the College of Education and Human Development, for a two-year term to provide research and teaching/learning leadership to the Collaborative.

The mission of the Multicultural Learning Collaborative is to form a collaborative with members of all of Maine’s diverse communities in order to prepare educators and human development professionals for ethical and effective practice in an increasingly multicultural world.

The vision of the Multicultural Learning Collaborative is to become recognized as a model of excellence for developing culturally responsive educators and human development professionals working with both children and adults, and for making significant and meaningful contributions to diverse communities.

The role of the Diversity Scholar is key to achieving this vision. During 2002-2004, I carried out this role with a series of wide-ranging activities, initiatives, programs, and partnerships with the Collaborative designed to increase our on-going learning about multiculturalism. Please peruse the articles and web sites listed here beginning with my essay on multicultural values and world mindedness.
