"There's a strong corps of seniors to build next year's team around and I'll rely on them to help get us through the ups and downs of the season. "I hope to create a never-quit attitude among the players and a puck possession, hard-working style of play that utilizes the (Olympic-sized) ice surface. I'm looking for us to have a stronger season and get back to .500 or better," replied Lauziere when asked about what his goals are for the 2006-07 season. "John has a great passion for the game of ice hockey and brings tremendous energy and enthusiasm to the ice every day," said Bean. "He played a key role in the development of our men's program over the past four years. I'm confident that he will take our women's program to the next level." During the past four seasons as an assistant coach with the men's team, Lauziere helped the Huskies compile a 44-54-7 overall record, including a 38-37-5 mark the past three seasons. In the 2004-2005 season, the Huskies enjoyed their finest season in more than a decade going 15-10-2 and reached the semifinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East tournament for the first time. Last season, the Huskies finished 12-13-2 overall (after a 1-8-2 start) and advanced to the playoff semifinals. As a player, Lauziere played four seasons for the Huskies after transferring to USM from Quinnipiac University. Lauziere appeared in 93 games, scoring 30 goals and earning 25 assists for 55 points. He had five power-play goals, one short-handed tally and five game-winning goals, and amassed 85 minutes in penalties. He was named the ECAC East Player of the Week twice during his career. Lauziere received his bachelor's degree in communication from USM in 2002. The Southern Maine women's team finished the 2005-2006 season with a 6-20-0 overall record and a 6-13-0 mark in ECAC Women's East play. The Huskies were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Lauziere and the Huskies open the 2006-2007 season on November 10 at home against New England College.
