AREAS OF EXPERTISE:
Professor Artz has taught courses in consumer behavior, environmental
sustainability, marketing, social marketing, and service quality.
Her research has addressed marketer's environmental responsibility, quality management, market opportunity
analysis, marketing communications, and consumer psychology.
Selected PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES:
Before entering academia, Professor Artz worked at the John Morton Company in Chicago as a marketing consultant for Fortune 500 or equivalent firms.
Professor Artz was active with the Margaret Chase Smith Quality Association as an examiner and as a judge for the state quality award. The Association has published her case studies on quality practices in small business.
Professor Artz was a Principal Investigator on a research grant funded by NIST (The National Institute for Standards and Technology, U.S. Department of Commerce) that examined quality awards.
Professor Artz's publications have appeared in The Journal of Marketing Communications, Marketing Letters, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Annual Review of Psychology, Advances in Consumer Research, Competition Forum, Global Competitiveness (JGC), Marketing Educator, Journal of Entrepreneurship Education, Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education, Maine Business Indicators, National Wildlife Foundation’s Campus Ecology Yearbook, and Women, Language & Communication. She is the author/editor of the book, 301 Great Customer Services Ideas, published by Inc.,1997.
Within the School of Business, Professor Artz has served as the Director of Student Affairs, Business Administration Department Chair, and Senior Research Associate of the Center for Business and Economic Research. At the university level, she is Chair of the President's Council on Carbon Neutrality and a Board Member of Teaching for Sustainability -- The Maine Watersheds Project. She also served as the Co-Chair of the 2003-2004 Gloria S. Duclos Convocation on Environmental Sustainability and as Coordinator of the President's Ad Hoc Committee for Learning Communities.
Professor Artz received the USM Faculty Senate Award for University Service in 2002 and was nominated for the Faculty Senate Award for Community Service in 2001. She was named "Maine Quality Hero" in 1998 and "Most Valuable Person" on the USM Commission on Undergraduate Education in 1993.
