A Neo-Luddite reflects on the Internet. Gertrude Himmelfarb.
Abstract: Risks of the computer revolution outweigh its rewards. Word processors, computerized library catalogues, CD-ROMs and research
using the Internet make a scholar's life easier and more interesting. Printing created a culture based on books which gradually became
authoritative sources. But the electronic flood of sounds and images does not develop understanding and logical thought, and Internet is not able
to judge the quality of what it carries.
