"Who's reading my e-mail?": a study of professionals' e-mail usage
and privacy perceptions in the workplace. Patricia A. Chociey.
Abstract: Corporate communication has recently been dominated by the use
of electronic mail and
with the ease of transmitting and retrieving information through the system,
problems concerning
privacy have been on the rise. A survey among working professionals was
conducted and it was
revealed that most employees are unaware that their employers can legally
monitor their e-mail
messages and that many employees use the system for private use. It is
thus simply recommended
that professional etiquette be practiced to reduce the risk of disputes,
incidents and lawsuits related
to e-mail privacy issues.
