HOME BIRTH [enlarge]

Out from the womb, where wild rushes start

in a quick steady heartbeat not from my own heart,

home has a new body since you urged it free,

pouring your head down through me like a soul,

calling the cosmos imperiously

into me, so we could reach, could unscroll

the body I gave you that you had to take

(where I held you to make you till you were its mark).

(This is my body—which you caused to break

open at home on my bed in the dark).
