Requirements for

Admission

USM applicants come from across the country and around the world. We consider academically qualified students without regard to race, color, sex, creed, national origin, gender, handicap, sexual orientation, or age. Admission to the University is based primarily on the applicant's academic background, the rigor of the high school program, and the grades achieved. In addition, the University considers SAT or ACT scores, the personal statement (essay), recommendations, individual talents, and activities.

Costs and Financial Aid

The USM Office of Financial Aid offers over $62 million in educational loans, grants, scholarships, and work-study programs to eligible students. More than 80% of our degree students receive financial assistance though these programs. In addition, USM offers several different payment plan options. Learn more

Scholarships

We invite you to learn more about the scholarships available to entering first year and transfer students. These awards, including the Presidential Scholarships and the Opportunity Scholarship, acknowledge those high school seniors and entering transfer students who exhibit exceptional scholastic success.

Living on Campus

Our seven residence halls in Gorham offer students a traditional college environment in a charming rural setting. From double and singles, to suite and apartment style living, students are able to live in a place where they are able to connect to their community and succeed in and out of the classroom. We have many different and dynamic living/learning and special interest housing programs for students who are seeking more out of their campus life experience.
