Women and Gender Studies Student Scholarship Awards
Academic Excellence Scholarship Award
This award recognizes student excellence in Women and Gender Studies and a commitment to the integration of feminist theory and practice.
Candidates must be currently enrolled at USM as a WGS major or minor and should fulfill all of the following criteria:
- Have successfully completed 3 or more WGS courses (includes related electives);
- Have a minimum of 80 credits by the Fall semester;
- Hold a GPA of 3.2 or above;
- NOT be graduating seniors;
- Submit a 250-word statement that addresses the following question:
How has your study in the Women and Gender Studies Program influenced your thinking about, and working towards, feminist transformation?
Selection
The Director will notify eligible Majors and Minors early in the Spring semester and invite them to apply. The Awards Committee will discuss the applications and make a recommendation to Council. Selection will be made by the WGS Council before the end of the Spring semester.
Study Scholarship Award
This award is offered in support of off-campus study opportunities for a WGS Major or Minor who plans to extend scholarly work in the area of women and gender. These opportunities may include, for example, attending a conference or institute or participating in a study abroad program. The application for funding should be submitted to the Director the semester before funds are needed.
Selection
The Awards Committee will discuss the applications and make a recommendation to Council based on quality of the proposal and financial need. Selection will be made by the WGS Council.
