are invited to come and celebrate National Heart Health month at the annual
Heart Saver’s luncheon. President Rich has given
release time for USM employees to attend this valuable one-hour luncheon.
As a luncheon guest you will….
• Enjoy a free delicious heart healthy meal generously donated by ARAMARK Dining Services.
• Hear important lifesaving information by a guest cardiologist addressing these topics:
- Rewards of heart saving life behaviors
- How to reduce the risk factors associated with heart disease
- Research findings on what are new, different and current interventions regarding heart events.

- Portland
Campus: Thursday, February 15th, 7th Floor Conf. Room,
Glickman Library, 12-1pm - Gorham Campus: Tuesday, February 27th, Presidential Dining Room, Brooks Center, 12-1pm
In the event of a snow day these events will be rescheduled.
Cardiologists
Lewiston
Dervilla
M. McCann, M.D., F.A.C.C.
Dr. Dervilla McCann is Board Certified in both internal
medicine and cardiology and currently lectures on topics in cardiology
with particular
emphasis on
cardiac disease in women, hyperlipidemia, cardiac disease prevention,
and vascular disease. Dr. McCann is currently a partner in Androscoggin
Cardiology
Associates, specializing in noninvasive cardiology with a practice in
Lewiston/Auburn, Maine. She is medical director of "Take Charge" an
out reach screening and wellness program through St. Mary's Regional Medical
Center.
Portland
Lisa
R. Thomas, M.D., F.A.C.C.
A Vermont native, Dr. Thomas is a graduate of Dartmouth College and received
her M.D. degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine, where
she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Thomas was a
resident and chief resident in internal medicine at Beth Israel Hospital,
Boston, where she also completed a fellowship in cardiology. Dr. Thomas is
board-certified in internal medicine and in cardiovascular disease. She has
taught as a clinical fellow and instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical
School. Dr. Thomas subspecializes in clinical cardiology, including cardiovascular
issues in women, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology.
Gorham
Warren D. Alpern, M.D., F.A.C.C.
Dr. Alpern received his medical degree from the University of Colorado and
trained in internal medicine at the Maine Medical Center. He trained in cardiology
at the Maine Medical Center and the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Alpern's
academic appointments include Clinical Assistant Professor, University of
Vermont College of Medicine. He has served as President of the Medical Staff
at Maine Medical Center and is the Medical Director of the Turning Point
Cardiac Rehabilitation program at Maine Medical Center. Dr. Alpern is board-certified
in internal medicine and cardiology.

Complete and submit the reservation form below. The deadline for the LAC and Portland luncheons is Thursday, February 8th. The deadline for the Gorham luncheon is Tuesday, February 20th.
