USM Web Group

USM's Web Group is responsible for the maintenance and development of the University's web site. This includes the site's content, usability, and design, as well as policies and procedures guiding the Web site's evolution. This charge is carried out in conjunction with input from USM's Web Advisory Board, a campus-wide body with representatives from each University administrative unit.

  • Amy Barnes, associate director, Marketing and Brand Management, came to USM in January 1995 as the Department's first full-time staff writer. Her role has evolved through the years and her duties include editing print publications and compiling USM's alumni magazine, as well as helping to manage the University's web presence. She has a degree in journalism from Michigan State University and previously worked as a journalist at newspapers in the Midwest before relocating to Maine.

  • Stephen Houser, director, Network Services, Database and Application Support, started working as a computer programmer at USM while a student at USM in 1986. Since then his role has evolved and today he manages database and software design and development, administers several USM servers, and consults on technology-related issues. He created the University's first home page in the early 1990's, and has continued to play an integral role in the development of the University's web presence ever since. He has a B.S. and a M.S. in computing from USM.

  • Robin McGlauflin, web support specialist, Database and Application Support, has been involved in web design since 1997. She came to USM in 2003 after 10 years of communications and technical support work at a Maine nonprofit organization. In addition to web design and programming, Robin's background includes projects in desktop publishing, database management, as well as broadcast, radio, and film production. She has degrees in communications and philosophy from the University of Maine and was a graduate student in Boston University's film program. She is currently taking classes in USM's computer science program.
