Writing Across the Curriculum

OPPORTUNITIES FOR FACULTY DEVELOPMENT

USM Provost’s Summer Writing Seminar

Known fondly by participants as “grammar camp,” this summer seminar is usually held in June at the Stone House in Freeport.  Despite its nickname, the Summer Writing Seminar focuses not only on grammar, syntax, and style (in morning sessions) but also on a broad range of issues related to writing, teaching writing, and being a writer.  The seminar aims at creating a community of scholars; it also offers follow-up programs and receptions during the year.  The seminar is open to all full-time and part-time faculty and includes a stipend for participants; participation is one way faculty may demonstrate training specific to preparing them to teach W courses.  Flyers describing the program are sent to all faculty each spring.  For more information, contact Professor Nancy Gish (780-4747).

Center for Teaching

USM’s Center for Teaching offers a diverse schedule of workshops and events related to teaching writing and using writing in the classroom.  The Center’s online calendar is available by clicking the workshop link at http://www.usm.maine.edu/cft.
