Writing Across the Curriculum

FOR FACULTY:

PROCESS FOR COURSE APPROVAL

If you believe your course meets, or could be redesigned to meet the W criteria, please consider applying for a Writing-intensive designation.  The Core Curriculum Committee, a subcommittee of USM’s Faculty Senate, is responsible for reviewing proposals and granting approval  for the W designation.  The Core Council meets 3-4 times each semester to review proposals.

During Spring, 2007, submit proposals for  Writing Intensive designation to Susan McWilliams at smcwilms@usm.maine.edu.  She will guide faculty and/or programs in preparing a proposal to bring before the Core Curriculum Council.  Proposals must describe how the course meets each of the criteria.  Submissions to the Core Curriculum Committee must include the proposal, a course syllabus, and current c.v. of all faculty teaching the course.

Please note that if a course is offered in multiple sections, ALL sections must meet the W criteria.  If this is not the case, the Core Curriculum Council will suggest alternative strategies.
