Writing Across the Curriculum

ASSESSING AND EVALUATING STUDENT WRITING

Assessing and evaluating student writing are among the most time- and energy- consuming tasks associated with writing-across-the-curriculum.  The burdens of “correcting” are among the principal objections faculty, especially those outside of English departments or composition programs, have to WAC.  Clearly, correcting students’ written work can be overwhelming, and, clearly, correcting essays does take longer than, for example, having a computer optically scan multiple-choice exams.  There are, however, strategies that faculty can use to make the process of assessing and evaluating writing less time-consuming, less laborious, and more effective for faculty and students.

You can click on the items in the list below to learn more about how to give students effective feedback without putting an undue burden on your time.
