Veterans Services

There are currently more than 325 students accessing GI Bill benefits here at USM, to include active-duty, Selected Reserves, veterans, and eligible family members.
Veteran students are often very active on campus, whether in student senate leadership or the Veterans Student Organization (VSO). Veterans are making a difference!
Many students serve in the Guard or Reserves, while taking courses. Since these students can be deployed with little warning, USM has a policy for students called to Active-Duty.
Many USM students using VA benefits have recently returned home from an overseas assignment. To ease this transition to civilian life, students are encouraged to visit the Veterans Resource Center.
Military training may result in college credit. Please be sure to request your branch’s official military transcript be forwarded to USM for possible prior learning credit.

Thank you for your service!

Yellow Ribbon GraphicVeterans Services at the University of Southern Maine (USM) serves veterans, servicemembers, and their families, who are accessing U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs educational benefits, often referred to as the GI Bill.

USM is a military-friendly campus and a proud participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program.  USM is also a Servicemembers Opportunity College (SOC).

There are multiple chapters of the GI Bill and navigating the process can be confusing. Transitioning from combat to the classroom can be a challenge, as well. USM Veterans Services is here to help.
