Academic year activities include academic advising, tutoring, PSAT and SAT test preparation, college and financial aid planning, and career exploration. Students meet weekly at their own high schools with UB staff to monitor academic progress and receive assistance with college selection and application processes. Upward Bound at USM offers additional enrichment activities during the school year, including but not limited to, college fairs, college visits and conferences throughout Maine and New England.
During the academic year, year round staff members visit students at Upward Bound at USM's target schools. Students usually meet the year round staff during their lunchtime to discuss how school is going. Year round staff also help students monitor their grades and prepare for college. Upward Bound at USM wants to make sure that students stay at a good grade point average and take courses necessary to prepare them for college.
In addition to visiting schools there are a few field trips/college tours during the academic year. Upward Bound at USM high school juniors and seniors are invited to attend weekend college tours. Upward Bound at USM wants students to explore different colleges.
Every year Upward Bound accepts students into the program. Towards the end of their academic school year, the accepted students, who will be upcoming juniors and seniors in the summer, will be asked to attend an orientation on the weekend. Students meet at USM-Gorham campus.
Other activities throughout the academic year include SAT testing, Upward Bound at USM Alumni Reunion, Senior College Applications day, Senior FAFSA day, Senior Graduation Day and many more.
