Lisa Belanger is a Family and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and the Clinical Director of Health Services at USM. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing in 1977 and practiced both in hospital and community health settings prior to returning to school and receiving a Master’s degree as an Adult Nurse Practitioner from Boston College in 1982. Later, she earned two post-masters certificates from USM as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in 1997 and 2003 respectively.
Since receiving her graduate degree, Lisa did some teaching part-time as an instructor of community health and later, pediatrics. For more than 20 years, she managed the Family Health Services Program for the Portland Public Health Division combining clinical practice with public health advocacy. Since joining USM in December, 2010, she continues to see her clinical practice as vital to her efforts to connect real world experience with population health and policy change. She believes in an integrated practice model which emphasizes the mind/body connection and a holistic approach to health care and appreciates that USM is also committed to this approach.
Beyond her work at USM, Lisa enjoys re-learning the wonders of life through the eyes of her three grandchildren as well as hiking, gardening and tending her small flock of chickens.
