INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this manual is to provide general guidelines and acceptable standards for student writing in the Department of Technology. Students in other departments should consult their instructors about using this manual as a reference.
Writing in Courses
One of the primary skills of an educated person is the ability to effectively seek out, analyze, synthesize, and record information in a scholarly manner. Students should therefore expect that some type of scholarly writing will be required in most university courses.
The standards provided in this manual are considered to represent a minimum acceptable level of student writing. Failure to meet these standards represents failure to adequately fulfill writing requirements and will be reflected in the student's course evaluation.
The documentation standards in this manual are drawn from the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, American Psychological Association, 1994 and the Electronic Style: A Guide to Citing Electronic Information by Xia Li and Nancy B. Crane, Meckler Publishing Co.1993. Students are referred to those guides for expanded illustrations and explanations.
