Background

I come from a family of teachers and as an oldest child grew up teaching. I have been fascinated by the possibilities of various educational settings having attended Montessori school, public magnet schools and taught with Outward Bound, Boston Children’s Museum, and summer camps. Formally, as a teacher and teacher educator, I have worked in schools in New York City, Los Angeles, rural Arkansas, Houston, and currently Portland.

Teaching Perspective

I am professionally fascinated by the demographic and technological changes in our society and the opportunities these create for schools. My teaching goal is to help interns build a foundation for professional lives that are rich in learning, inquiry, and the joy of watching children learn.

Intellectual Pursuits

I am very privileged to work with the Newcomer ETEP program to help create access and support for recent immigrants to become certified teachers in the United States. I continue to learn a lot about other countries, international models of education, various cultural learning styles, and gain insight into the assumptions and limitations of our current schooling systems.

Personal Side

Personally, I am the proud mama of two young daughters. My husband and I enjoy sharing our love of the outdoors with our daughters and our daily commitment to making a better world for them to grow up to.
