- Indian Health Service (IHS) Loan Repayment
The IHS Loan Repayment applies to undergraduate and graduate students. Loan Repayment Participants (LRP) may enter into a service contract for two years. Special consideration is given to nurses, nurse practitioners, mental health and the physician priority medical specialties because of legislative mandates and the IHS staffing needs and shortages of these health and allied health professions. It is intended that these special considerations will attract a sufficient number of these individuals to ameliorate these needs and shortages. Currently, the LRP will pay participants up to $20,000 per year. The LRP will pay an additional 20 percent annually to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to offset the increased tax liability incurred by the participant. - National Health Service Corps NHSC Loan Repayment
