Welcome to the page of the newly formed University of Southern Maine Cycle Club. We are a student organization recognized by the BSO but invite all members of the community to participate in our rides, events, trips, and workshops. We hope to plan events for all types and styles of bicycle riders.

Spring 2013 Events
- Come Learn About Bikes! USM Cycle Club is hosting a six week bicycle mechanics skills workshop series! March 13-April 24, 2013. (no workshop on 3/27, spring break)
- Come to one or more of our workshops to learn how to take care of your bike and bikes in general
- Wednesdays, 5:30p-7:30p, Spin Room, Second Floor Sullivan Gym, Falmouth Street, Portland USM Campus
- Open to the public, free snacks, bring your bike, bring a friend, bring your tools, or just bring yourself!
- No prior experience necessary.
- Demo bikes and tools provided.
- Every time you attend a workshop, get entered to win one of the overhauled bicycles worked on by the group at the end of the series!
- Entry is FREE. Please consider donating a little cash for us to be able to continue to offer these events!
- Tools, equipment, snacks have been donated and our professional bike mechanics are all volunteering their time. Access to these may be limited if attendance is especially high.
SCHEDULE of Workshops
- March 13th 5:30-7:30p - Week 1 - Introductions! Come meet your instructors, fellow attendees, and enjoy snacks, all while getting to know each and every part of a bicycle, as well as common tools used in bike repair and maintenance.
- March 20th 5:30-7:30p - Week 2 - Tires, tubes, and wheels. Learn how to identify a leak, change a tire, and patch a flat tube.
- No Workshop over Spring break!
- April 3rd 5:30-7:30p - Week 3 - Brakes. Learn the basics of how brakes work, different styles of brakes, and how to make simple repairs and/or adjustments to your brakes.
- April 10th 5:30-7:30p - Week 4 - Shifting. Learn about different kinds of shifting mechanisms, front and rear deraillers, and learn how to make simple adjustments and repairs to shifting.
- April 17th 5:30-7:30p - Week 5 - Lubrication points and front hub overhaul. Learn about bike grease and lube, where to use each and when, and how to overhaul a wheel hub.
- April 24th 5:30-7:30p - Week 6 - Bottom bracket and wheel truing. Learn the basics of more advanced topics such as crank set and bottom bracket area, as well as wheel truing.
