Welcome to RecycleMania 2013 at the University of Southern Maine!

  We hope you'll commit to recycling more and throwing away less during this nationwide competition for colleges and universities. Thanks for your help!

The competition runs February 3th to March 23rd 2013. During that time (and beyond!) we need your help to decrease our trash significantly and increase the amount we recycle. Click the link below to see how USM stacks up against 160 other schools nationwide in various categories.

There are many different catagories in RecycleMania so USM has a great chance to win. We are participating in the following categories:

• Food Service Organics (food waste, coffee grounds, waste fryer oil)
• E-Waste (electronics, printer catridges, batteries, etc)
• Single Stream Recycling (Plastic #1-7, glass, metal, paper, and cardboard - all the things recycled in the blue bins around campus). 
• Waste Minimization (How much can we decrease overall waste, including trash and recycling, to simply throw away less)

How can you help?

1. Do your homework and learn about what is and what is not recyclable. Click here to learn what goes into Single Stream Recycling at USM.
2. Recycle all materials that are recyclable - seek out a recycling bin if one is not right nearby.
3. Tell a friend about RecycleMania and why it matters to you
4. Buy less and purchase durable things with less packaging to reduce waste
5. Reuse things like office paper, office supplies, etc. 
6. Donate unwanted goods to a new home or host a clothing/book swap - someone else might be able to use it!
