Tuition and Costs
Payment Procedures
Please read the USM Changes to Debit and Credit Card Processing starting July 1, 2009.
By Phone with E-Check
Call the Summer Session Office at (207) 780-5617 between 8:00-4:30 p.m.
In Person with Cash/Check
Payment may be made at the Student Billing Offices located in Portland (Payson Smith Hall) and Gorham (Corthell Hall). Checks should be made payable to the University of Southern Maine with the student's complete name and social security number clearly indicated on the check.
On MaineStreet with a MasterCard, Discover, or American Express
Please be aware that there is a 2.75% (non-refundable) convenience fee through the credit card company.
Payment may be made on MaineStreet by signing into your MaineStreet Student Center. If you have problems or questions accessing your student center, please contact the USM Help Desk at (207)780-4029.
USM no longer accepts VISA.
Third Party Payments
The University will bill an employer that guarantees payment of a student's charges. The employer must provide
written payment authorization prior to registration. The student is responsible for all costs if the employer does not make payment. Please contact the Student Billing Office to set up a third party payment at (207)780-5200.
Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver
The University of Maine System Board of Trustees has authorized the waiver of undergraduate tuition charges for any person age 65 or over who is a Maine resident and shows evidence of financial need. Graduate tuition is not covered by this waiver. Permission to enroll is granted on a space available basis. An application for a Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver is available in the Student Billing Office on each campus and must be completed at the time of registration. Proof of age is required.
Financial Aid
Those students receiving financial aid must notify the Financial Aid Office
at (207) 780-5250 of their plans to register on or before the time of registration.
Student Billing Deadline for Financial Aid
Financial aid must cover the entire Summer 2009 balance no later than May 29, 2009, in order to be considered on-time. If financial aid doesn't arrive until after this date, late payment fees will be non-refundable. Please contact the Financial Aid Office to make sure all documents are complete.
