A Spirit of USM series
The Spirit of USM, our annual series of co-curricular interfaith programs, focuses this year on first hand involvement in and reflection on community work as an expression of, and opportunity to develop, spiritual life.
Fall Semester
- September 19, Habitat for Humanity work day: working to help construct houses for low-income families.
- Late October, Southern Maine Agency on Aging "Fall Clean Up": raking leaves for frail, low income elderly clients.
- November 7 or 14 (check back!), STRIVE dance night: playing games and socializing with STRIVE members, who are developmentally disabled young adults.
- November 19 and 20, Fall Faith Works Fest: a celebration and showcase of the semester's projects.
Spring Semester
- February 5, Preble Street Resource Center Pantry Day: assisting with distribution of grocery items to families in need.
- March (date tbd), support for New Mainers: working with children or youth in need of support for reading, homework, or college aspirations.
- April (date tbd), focus on the environment: working with a local environmental organization.
- April 29 and 30, Spring Faith Works Fest: a repeat of fall's event to celebrate and showcase our work.
