At the University of Southern Maine, we are meeting the challenges of change with innovation and creativity. As a public regional comprehensive university, our mission places us at the heart of this region's future. We supply the artists, business people, engineers, health care workers, lawyers, public servants and teachers whose talents will fuel our economy—and shape tomorrow's world.
Over the months ahead, we will be sharing stories of the many USM students, faculty and alumni who are achieving remarkable things in our communities and around the world. These stories illustrate just a few of the ways in which our university is making a vital difference in our region, and beyond, and why we say—USM is "Connecting You with Tomorrow."
Through partnerships with businesses and organizations, USM faculty members are engaged in applied research and scholarship and our students are taking advantage of opportunities for experiential learning—building the real-world skills they will need to help shape the future of our region.
Our students are studying leadership dynamics in Africa, researching the impacts of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, and performing in operas on the world stage. They are embracing new connections and translating them into new opportunities for success and prosperity in work and in life.
At USM we are challenging ourselves to think creatively and critically across disciplines. From new academic programs to curricular innovations to projects in partnership with businesses and organizations close to home and around the world, USM is tapping into its strengths and stretching to meet the needs of a changing world.
Today, USM is engaging with faculty, parents, community leaders and businesses to forge new connections and opportunities for partnership. I invite you share your ideas for collaboration with us. Please contact me directly at connecting@usm.maine.edu.
