A Letter to Prospective Alumni

From Bruce Pratt, Interim President of the Stonecoast Alumni Association

The Stonecoast MFA graduated its first alumni class in July 2004. From its nascent days, Stonecoast has fostered collegiality and mutual respect, and encouraged a zealous spirit of discovery. As the number of our alumni grows, the Stonecoast Alumni Association will increasingly become a vibrant and responsive network for our alumi, students, and faculty.

Each week our alumni listserv announces impressive new publications by our alumni, students, and faculty, and the effusive enthusiasm and good wishes expressed there are testament to our sense of community. As further evidence, I note the many extant writing and reading/performing groups that originated in the early residencies.

The Alumni Association is determined to enhance Stonecoast's presence in the literary world. Through organized readings and presentations at major conventions such as AWP, Stonecoast panels at conferences and writing programs, endowed scholarships, public readings, regional and Stonehouse reunions and other highly visible activities showcasing the prodigious talent and experience of Stonecoast writers, we will increase our reputation in the academic, writing, and publishing communities.

Every member of the Stonecoast community-alumna, alumnus, faculty, staff, and student-is encouraged to share ideas and offer suggestions for building our alumni association. But the ideas of our alumni matter the most. We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Bruce Pratt
Interim President
Stonecoast Alumni Association
