About MeI received my Ph.D. from SUNY Stony Brook and have been at USM since 1991; I've been department Chair since 1997. I am engaged in two main research projects: the first in the area of the sociology of age and the second in the area of food. I also keep current with research on gender and women's work, as I teach courses in all these areas. Among my ongoing interests and activities are various projects related to active learning, critical thinking, writing, and general education. At USM, I coordinate writing-intensive courses and am involved in the revision of general education. When I’m not at USM, I’m renovating an old farmhouse five projects at a time and keeping up with three energetic kids and variety of animals. In my spare time, I read novels, knit, and take riding lessions, though not usually all at the same time. |
