Creativity in bloom

The works of talented writers, scholars, and artists are showcased in two unique literary journals, both of which recently released 2005 editions. Whether you are interested in creative writing or scholarly discourse, Words & Images and The Southern Maine Review have something for you.

Originally created as a vehicle to showcase student and Maine-based talent, Words & Images now publishes nationally recognized artists and writers. The latest edition features the work of Richard Brown Lethem, George Daniell, and Hilary Hanley Irons, among others.

The Southern Maine Review, formerly The Maine Scholar, is a 437-page scholarly journal that features work by USM students, faculty, staff, and alumni, among others from across the country and the United Kingdom. Stories of regional interest include those on Lewiston's Somali population, Maine's Creative Economy, and the implications of being “from away” in Maine politics.
