New and improved Mitchell Center

A 23,000-square-foot Advanced Technology Wing and renovations to the John Mitchell Center boosts USM's School of Applied Science, Engineering, and Technology's capacity to support a critical sector of Maine's economy.

Maine companies have identified a lack of access to advanced manufacturing technologies and related academic services as a major impediment to economic growth and job creation. With the completion of this $8 million renovation project, USM is poised to help remove that impediment by providing the educational programs, consulting, product testing, and related services needed to support the state's manufacturing, construction, electronics, and information technology industries.

The newly expanded and renovated facility also is the first University-owned building in the state to earn Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council for its environmentally responsible design.
