The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, also known as the FAFSA, collects information used in determining a student applicant's eligibility for need-based institutional funding and such programs as the Federal Pell Grant, the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, the Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG), the Federal SMART Grant, Federal Work-Study, Federal Educational Loans, State Grants, and University Grants. Federal Work Study is awarded as part of an eligible student's Financial Aid award. A student must remain enrolled for at least six credit hours each semester to continue on the Federal Work Study program. USM supports Federal Work Study positions through both on- and off-campus employers. Most jobs are located on campus at University offices and departments. USM Financial Aid offices provide a listing of scholarships offered by USM and other organizations. The listing includes scholarships which may require an application, or which may utilize a faculty nomination process.
