Tuition and Fees
Each year, the University of Maine System sets USM tuition rates for the coming academic year. For 2012-2013, tuition rates are:

In addition to tuition, there are several fees which must be paid each semester. For complete information about tuition and fees, payment policies, and related information, please visit the Student Billing Office.

Financial Aid
Many undergraduate students receive some type of assistance through the USM Office of Financial Aid. Undergraduate students may be eligible for federal and state grants, work-study, and loans, in addition to scholarships.

Graduate students commonly obtain loans, both subsidized and unsubsidized, to assist with their expenses. Half-time students (those taking at least six graduate credit hours per semester) are usually eligible for loans to cover tuition, books, and assist with living expenses. Full-time students (those taking at least 12 graduate credits per semester) are usually eligible for loans to cover tuition, fees, books and assist with living expenses. There are few government grant programs for graduate students; however, graduate students may be eligible for scholarships from university and private sources.

SEHD Graduate Assistantships
The School of Education and Human Development has a limited number of graduate assistantships available to degree students in SEHD graduate programs who will enroll in at least six graduate credit hours each semester while employed. Assistantships are typically 10 hours per week. Depending on the type of assistantship, assistants are paid a monthly stipend based on the hours worked per week and may receive credit toward tuition depending on position (see application for details).

Awards are usually made in late spring for the following academic year. Applications should be submitted by March 1 for priority consideration. Applications are available in the Dean's Office, 8 Bailey Hall.

You may submit a graduate assistant applicatin at any time, but most positions are filled by May 1.

University Assistantships (Teaching and General)
The Office of Graduate Studies has listings and general information about teaching and graduate asistantships within the University.

SEHD Scholarships
The School of Education and Human Development has over 30 scholarship funds from which it awards more than $85,000 in scholarship monies each year. These scholarships are available to eligible students matriculated in SEHD programs who are taking at least six credit hours during the semesters for which they are receiving aid. Awards are made in the spring of each year for the following academic year. 

All SEHD Scholarship applications have a deadline of March 1 (post-marked).
