Partnerships are formed while working within the School's Business community
At the USM School of Business, we try to do everything in partnership with our business community. We have an extensive internship program. Our centers—in real estate, entrepreneurship, small business development, and business and economic research—do extensive research and technical assistance in partnership with the local business community. For example, in 2007 our Maine Center for Business and Economic Research (MCBER) won the “Best Practice Award of Excellence” from the national University Economic Development Association (UEDA). The UEDA annually holds a competition for its members to recognize outstanding initiatives in economic development, and MCBER won for its long-term evaluation of grants issued by the Maine Technology Institute (MTI).
Many of our undergraduate courses use community-based projects as assignments. This is even truer for the MBA program, where the required capstone course is a Practicum, where teams of graduate students solve real problems at real organizations in the regional community.
