AREAS OF EXPERTISE
Professor MacDonald's primary specialty is database design in modern relational systems, with a secondary interest in major statistical analysis applications. He also has extensive experience in computer programming, with a current emphasis on Visual Basic. He has taught, or is knowledgeable in, the use of most of the popular business-related computer applications.
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Professor MacDonald has been employed as a computer professional at USM since 1982. This is his thirteenth year as a computer faculty member within the School of Business. Throughout that time, he has been extensively involved in the development of computing within the school, and currently manages its computing curriculum. Prior to becoming a computer professional Professor MacDonald was a social worker and the executive director of private, non-profit social work agencies. Professor MacDonald has consulted on many computer based development efforts in such diverse places as the USM Muskie Institute, the Kidney Foundation of Maine, the USM School of Nursing, the Small Business Development center, and many others. He has presented papers at educational research associations, and has been active in designing new courses and training methods for computer instruction.
