Jim Shaffer, Dean, Jim comes from a successful media career that spanned 30 years - taking him to Minneapolis, Baltimore, Buffalo, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Portland, Maine. In Los Angeles, he was Chief Financial Officer of the Los Angeles Times. He came to Maine in 1991 to be CEO of Maine-based Guy Gannett Communications, which had newspaper, TV and other media in seven states. After the sale of Guy Gannett in 1999, Jim spent the next few years in an entrepreneurial role as CEO of Clickshare Service Corp., an Internet startup that provides infrastructure for digital content transactions. Elaine Ashley, Administrative Manager, Office Manager and Executive Secretary to the Dean. She has held secretarial positions in a variety of companies and law firms. Ms. Ashley holds a certificate from Grace Martin Secretarial School in Pittsburgh, PA. She came to the School of Business in June 1996.

Sharon Bannon, Coordinator of Student Affairs/Academic Counselor, has been with the school since 1987. In this position she advises approximately four hundred undergraduate School of Business students. In her expanded role in student affairs, Ms. Bannon edits the undergraduate newsletter, coordinates recruitment efforts, oversees international exchange initiatives and advises faculty and administration in the development of policies and procedures impacting students. She holds a bachelor of arts in German and before coming to USM, spent six years working in international education in Washington, D.C., and New York City. She earned her master's degree in adult education with a concentration in training and development in 1996 from USM.

Melissa Burns, Coordinator of Career Services and Internships. Before coming to USM, Melissa assisted students with career development and academic advising at J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College in Richmond, Virginia. Furthermore, she has assisted clients at federally funded employment and training programs and staffing agencies. he holds a M. Ed. in Guidance and Counseling from Clemson University, a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Maine, and a State of Maine teaching certificate.

Alice B. Cash, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, formerly Graduate Programs Director, is the new Assistant Dean for Student Affairs. Alice is responsible for providing strategic direction for the delivery of services to students in all areas of student success including advising, career services and internships. Alice works with the School's faculty and staff in carrying out the student affairs and academic functions of the School. THis includes ensuring the availability of services at times that are responsive to student needs. Alice will continue to manage the School's graduate programs. Alice earned her Associate's degree in Liberal Arts from USM in 1994, her B. S. in Accounting from USM in 1997 and her MBA from USM in 2000. Alice worked in the USM Admission Office from 1987 through 1993 when she joined the School of Business to do support work with the graduate programs. Alice taught ABU 190 Spreadsheets and Problems Solving on a part-time, overload basis from 2000 through 2006.

Michael Harrison, Coordinator of Student Affairs/Academic Counselor. In his capacity as academic counselor Michael advises approximately 400 students in the School of Business. In addition, he assumes student affairs responsibilities which include coordinating the School of Business scholarship process, a fall welcome event, and the peer mentor program. Prior to joining USM's team, Michael worked in higher education at a variety of institutions in such areas as admissions, student life, residential life, community service/service learning and alumni relations. He earned his BS in Human Services from SUNY Plattsburgh, MSW from Western Michigan University, and a CAS in Psychology with a school counseling license from Springfield College in Massachusetts.

Carla Harmon, Administrative Assistant. Carla provides support for the manager of the MBA program, the director of external linkages and partnerships and the office manager. Ms. Harmon came to the school in February 1998 after retiring with 30 years of service at Bell Atlantic (then NYNEX) as an administrative assistant in their executive offices.

Pat Puschock, Administrative Assistant. Ms. Puschock has been with the School of Business since 1989. She supports the director and associates of the Center for Business & Economic Research. Prior to joining USM she worked in the Portland area in the legal field.

Beth Liotard, Administrative Assistant, has been with USM since January of 2006. She provides support to the academic counselors as well as Academic and Student Affairs projects.

Natalie Stockbridge, Administrative Assistant, registers students, schedules appointments and supervises student workers. With a long history working in administration in the academic field, prior to coming to the School of Business she worked for a Warehouse equipment company in the Auburn area.
